13 Mar RESIST THE DEVIL
1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour:9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
Every child of God is engaged in warfare whether you are conscious of it or not. From the day you gave your life to Christ, you automatically relocated and changed your position to be on God’s side. That was what introduced you as an enemy of Satan and since that day he has done everything he can to make your life miserable. The enemy knows he cannot take you out without God’s express permission. He also cannot tell you God does not exist. He cannot present himself as an alternative to God; so all that is left for him is to oppress, suppress, and harass you in things both great and small.
God is very much aware of this, yet He does not stop the devil from coming your way. God knows that you are safe in Him and for as long as you remain in Him the devil may buffet you but will not prevail against you if you hold on fast to your faith. That is why God exhorts the believer to resist the devil. When you resist the devil, you refuse to do his bidding, he will flee from you. Do you remember what happened in the wilderness after Jesus had fasted 40 days and nights? Satan tempted Him but did not prevail.
Jesus responded to the devil by quoting God’s word on three occasions. He simply used the Word. Can there be any other way for the believer today apart from using the word of God to respond to all the devil’s suggestions and his pressure? Absolutely not! The word remains the only way we can resist the enemy of our souls.
1. Thank God for the victory Christ won for us on Calvary, thereby making us more than conquerors.
2. Pray for faith and the discipline of filling your heart with God’s word in preparation for warfare.
3. Father, please let your Word dwell in me and strengthen me to stand and resist the devil by Your word that is ever alive.
I declare that I am a winner because Jesus won the battle for me. I fill my heart with the word of God. I am a lover of God’s word, and I am a student of the same. My life revolves around the word, and by divine authority, standing on the eternal word of God I cast aside every wicked machination of the devil against me in the name of Jesus.
