02 Feb FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
It is interesting the Bible talks about a good fight. It means there can be bad fights, or if you please, “foolish fights”. Have you thought about what makes the Christian fight a good fight? It is a fight whose results are already determined. There are no predictions here. There is no need to bet like people do in horse races hoping their favorite horse will win. This fight is already a settled one.
If you know your enemy, you will immediately know that he is already defeated. Jesus did not promise that He is going to fight for you. He simply enrolled you in a battle that He has already won. The end of the fight was declared before you enrolled. There is nothing that changes that equation. Jesus defeated Satan at Calvary! In fact, Calvary was actually the manifestation of the victory for our sakes. Satan was defeated in heaven and was thrown out with disobedient angels.
Recall that Jesus told the disciples “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning”. How else could human beings accept this victory and own it except it happened before their eyes? That explains Calvary. Calvary was and still is for our sake, that place where Jesus won the victory for us.
If you study carefully Paul’s exhortation in Ephesians to put on the whole armor of God, one word stands clear. The word is “stand”. Our task is to stand in the victory of Christ and nothing can overcome us. Take your stand dear brother; and take your stand, dear sister!
1. Worship the Lord this morning for both the victory Jesus won and the assurance that it is yours as well.
2. Pray that you will continue to have faith to stand in the victory of Christ so you will truly experience no defeat in this life.
3. Father, please help me by the Holy Spirit to continually walk in Jesus’ victory every day of my life.
I declare that I am blessed because I am victorious. I am victorious because I fight the good fight of faith. My fight is a good fight because the victory was declared before I was born and I appropriate it by faith. I declare that Jesus Christ is my Lord, therefore I am more than a conqueror and I know no defeat.
